More than the music

A DAD FIRST. A SONGWRITER SECOND.

Southern Overdrive wasn’t created in a studio. It was built from a life that became too heavy to keep carrying in silence.

For years, I swallowed the things that hurt me, made excuses for what I couldn’t explain, and slowly lost myself trying to hold together a home that was already falling apart. I lived through addiction, emotional pain, betrayal, grief, separation, and the kind of heartbreak that doesn’t end just because a relationship does.

Eventually, my life reached a place I wasn’t sure I would survive.

When I finally began putting everything into words, Southern Overdrive was born.

THE STORY BEHIND THE SONGS

These songs aren’t stories I invented. They are moments I lived.

They come from the nights nobody saw, the conversations that never left my head, the people I couldn’t save, the children I would walk through hell for, and the man I’m still learning how to become.

The early music tells the story of love before the wreckage, how something beautiful began, how deeply I believed in it, and how much of myself I gave trying to save it.

The music that followed stepped inside the house after everything changed, the addiction, the silence, the anger, the confusion, and the damage that eventually found its way into every part of our lives.

Some songs are about healing. Some are about accountability. Some confront the things that hurt me and give a voice to words I spent years unable to say.

But Southern Overdrive isn’t going to live forever inside the pain.

WHAT COMES NEXT

The music being written today is also about survival, fatherhood, desire, laughter, love, regret, and life after the storm. It looks honestly at where I’ve been without allowing the past to decide where I’m going.

Some songs will bleed.

Some will burn.

Some will make you want to roll the windows down, turn the volume up, and forget everything for a while.

Every one of them will be honest.

My music is lived through, not put together.

If you hear your own story somewhere inside mine, I hope these songs remind you that your pain deserves a voice, your life can outlast its darkest chapter, and being broken does not mean your story is over.

A DAD BEFORE EVERYTHING

Before Southern Overdrive, before the albums, and before anyone listened to a word I wrote, I was a dad.

My children are more than part of this story. They are the reason I survived long enough to tell it. They are the reason I faced what I had become, began rebuilding my life, and turned my pain into something that might help somebody else feel less alone.

The music gave my pain a voice.

Now I’m using that voice to fight for the people who gave me a reason to survive.

I’m currently working to obtain experienced family law representation so I can protect my relationship with my children and continue fighting for equal time with them.

I’m not asking anyone to choose sides or fight this battle for me. I’m asking for the opportunity to stand in that courtroom properly represented and remain a present, everyday father in my children’s lives.

Outside of the First Responders Support campaign, proceeds from purchases made through this website will help me obtain that legal representation.

When you support this music, you aren’t only helping my story be heard. You’re helping a father fight to stay a father every day.

This is Southern Overdrive.

The past made the music.

My children are shaping what comes next.

“If Love Could Drive” is a father’s promise stretched across every mile separating him from his children. Through empty passenger seats, missed birthdays, county lines, and endless highways, the song captures the helplessness of loving your kids more than anything while being unable to simply drive home to them. It’s about a love that distance, time, and circumstance can never weaken, because if a father’s love alone could close the space between them, he’d already be there.

“Table for One” is about the part of heartbreak nobody warns you about, the ordinary routines that outlive the family they were built around. It’s working all day only to sit in the driveway, dreading the silence waiting inside. It’s cooking too much food, reaching for plates that are no longer needed, and hearing one fork against a plate where laughter used to fill the room. This song isn’t about the moment someone leaves. It’s about everything that stays behind.
